Hair and nails are made mostly out of protein. Protein is important for building strong bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. It also helps your body build and repair tissue and create enzymes and hormones.

On a ketogenic diet, protein needs should be met daily. Your protein needs are dependent on your activity level but because a ketogenic diet is very good for maintaining muscle tissue, your needs may be lower than they would be on a carb rich diet.
